NBA Head Coaches Doc Rivers of the Celtics and Doug Collins of the 76ers, have been added to the NBC Olympic broadcast team as basketball analysts.
Both coaches are veterans of the broadcast booth. Collins, after being fired by the Detroit Pistons, worked in the booth for both NBC and TNT over the next 5 years before returning to the bench with the Washington Wizards in 2001. At the upcoming Olympics, Collins will call games alongside play-by-play announcer Bob Fitzgerald, the voice of the Golden State Warriors for CSN Bay Area.
Rivers will work as a studio analyst for the Olympics, a role that he performed for the NBA on TNT immediately following his playing career in 1996. Rivers also called games alongside Al Michaels on ABC between coaching the Orlando Magic and his current job with the Boston Celtics.
Rivers and Collins aren’t the only talent working their first Olympics for NBC, others include commentators John McEnroe, Shaun White, Ryan Seacrest and Michelle Beadle.
